The Lumberjacks "Livin Life as Lumberjacks" Album Review

Trill Southern Hip-Hop
After all the turmoil and controversy, Khujo and T-Mo are "Still Standing". This album is as good as it gets now days
with watered down rap and hip-hop. On this album the duo continues to slang dirty lyrics over well seasoned beats. A MUST BUY ALBUM!!!!!!!!

M I A "Arular" Album Review

Hyphens
Sri Lankan-British electronica-hip hop. There are a lot of hyphenated descriptors possible for her. M.I.A. is an original, no one else sounds this way. When I first listened to this CD I thought that it would be better off interspersed with other music, but it's been growing on me. A solid block of M.I.A. to rattle the brain free.

Post-colonial. Post-modern. A feminist-P.Funk? Sun Ra+sampler?

One Be Lo "S O N O G R A M" Album Review

Hip hop is not dead
This Album is one of the best hip hop albums that I have ever heard, and I'm extremely picky when it comes to this stuff. I don't listen to the radio, as it is nothing but a tool for exploitation and a way that corporate America has manipulated the people to be kept deaf, dumb and blind. What these old white label heads call hip-hop now is nothing but s*** awful rap, with greed-driven, no-flowing House Negroes, mouthing mundaneness.
But wait. There is a scene that has been growing in strength and creativity since it's conception; where there are no beefs and the only competition is to see who can give birth to the sickest flow, or a head-nodding blend of samples and the mighty snare-kick; not record sales. This is the underground hip hop scene, and it's dedicated to producing quality music. I was worried about the lack of newcomers on the scene, but S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. by the artist ONE BE LO, a.k.a. onemanarmy of binary star has laid my fears to rest and filled my music-loving soul with hope and respect.
Simply put, the man, in my opinion, is the best emcee on the scene right now. That's it. Complementing him once again is Decompoze, who is making beats with his own style of uniqueness; a jazzier, smoother Pete Rock, if you will. The man has an angels' ear, and his work has made him one of my favorite producers.
This album ranks with liquid swords, midnight marauders, Stress: the extinction agenda, Enta da Stage, 93' till infinity, 3rd eye vision, etc.,etc. You get the idea. The sound, flow, and lyrics are unique, a rarity in these days and times. Oh yes, whoever posted the foolish review about antisemitic lyrics should be disregarded, as they have taken it completely out of context. Besides, underground Hip-hop is one of the only musical forms that we have where the artist has total freedom of expression, and while I certainly am not a racist, if you can't handle lyrical content or opinionated lyrics, then stop listening to real hip hop and turn the dial to your local Hot 97, where everything is nice and sparkling clean. Whoever wrote that review; I plead with you to respectfully retract it. These are only words, and words are only letters; compressed into thought. Peace.

Roots Manuva "Awfully Deep" Album Review

In a world of dime a dozen rappers... Unique
I have, ever since I was in Middle school even, been exposed to a smattering of Hip-hop of all different styles. From the gangsta rap in MS and high school to things like the Roots, Outkast, and The Beastie Boys. Yet these days a lot of the stuff that comes out is all the same. Can you really tell me that Akon and J-kwon don't sound somewhat similar or that they rhyme about anything that matters? But here on this album by Roots Manuva, I've found the first hip-hop in a long time that I feel is truly unique. His beats and hooks are wonderful, his lyrics are deep and meaningful, and his one of a kind delivery and voice really seal the whole thing up. If you want great, meaningful hip-hop buy this album. If you want whats out today, why pay money? It's all on the radio over and over anyway.
